Over the last sixteen years, Ojai WILD! has become a mainstay for our community to come together to celebrate our accomplishments while raising support for Los Padres ForestWatch, a small but mighty nonprofit organization that works to protect the Los Padres National Forest in Ojai’s backyard. It’s the longest-running conservation benefit in Ventura County.
Guests will enjoy an afternoon overlooking the Los Padres National Forest on the Pavilion Lawn at The Thacher School complete with a delicious dinner, silent auction highlighting highly procured items and an exciting live auction. Join us as we raise support for one of our region’s most effective conservation forces.

Julie traces her Chumash ancestry through her father's side. Growing up in the Ojai Valley and now making her home there with her husband Bruce Stenslie, their kids, and a slew of pets, she has engaged with the communities over the decades to learn, explore and find the answers to the many questions that people ask her about her heritage and culture. She is the founder and former Chair of the Barbareno/Ventureno Band of Mission Indians. With too many nonprofits and agencies to mention, Julie currently is working in the local schools and community groups. She is on the board of the Ojai Museum and the Ventura County Museum, and is an Elder, storyteller, educator, artist, archaeological monitor, and consultant.
Paul Jenkin is the Ventura Campaign Coordinator for the Surfrider Foundation, an international environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s waves and beaches through a powerful activist network. Since 1994, Paul has worked to restore the coast and watershed where he lives, in Ventura County, California.
Paul learned the importance of our coastal watersheds through his work to solve beach erosion problems near the mouth of the Ventura River. The Surfers’ Point Managed Shoreline Retreat project has become a national model for the value of living shorelines to protect and restore coastal processes. As coordinator of the Matilija Coalition, he spearheads the non-government efforts to remove the obsolete Matilija Dam and restore natural connections to the headwaters in Los Padres National Forest. Dam removal will provide native endangered steelhead access to critical habitat in Matilija Creek and restore downstream sediment transport to maintain a healthy watershed and coast for present and future generations. His Ventura River Ecosystem project at Venturariver.org aims to build awareness of the possibilities of ecosystem-based management for the watershed.
Paul spends his free time surfing, hiking, and mountain biking in the Ventura River watershed and beyond.

Protecting Pine Mountain: ForestWatch is spearheading a campaign to protect the forests and chaparral on Pine Mountain from a destructive logging and vegetation clearing project. Our legal team, our scientists, and our partners are hard at work, challenging the project in court along with other environmental groups, the City of Ojai, and the County of Ventura.
Safeguarding Our Climate: ForestWatch is working to ensure the prompt removal of idle wells in the Sespe Oil Field, and is working to stop the dumping of toxic wastewater into a protected aquifer. We’re also preparing to mobilize against a new plan that could allow drilling and fracking near state parks and beaches, national parks, forests, and wildlife refuges.
Securing a Safe Future for Wildlife: Our Room to Roam program gives wildlife a fighting chance at survival. Industry groups and lobbyists are challenging those protections in court; we’re there to give wildlife a voice. We’re also working with landowners to co-exist with wildlife, and identifying ways to reduce risk from vehicle collisions.
Inspiring Youth and Families: Our Outdoor Connections program expands access to our public lands by reaching out to dozens of underrepresented youth and families. Through outdoor excursions, we engage new audiences that will grow to be future stewards and voices for our public lands.
